What this application covers
Coal refuse handling covers the reject streams from preparation plants: coarse rock rejects, middlings, fine refuse, and tailings. Equipment may include refuse conveyors, crushers, dewatering screens, thickeners, slurry pumps, filter presses, and stacker systems. The design objective is to reduce water content, minimize transport cost, and meet environmental rules for disposal or backfill.
Step by step
Reject separation
Coarse and fine refuse are separated in washing circuits.
Coarse refuse conveying
Rock and coarse rejects are moved by belts or trucks.
Fine refuse pumping
Fine slurry is pumped to thickeners or filters.
Dewatering
Screens, thickeners, and filter presses reduce water content.
Disposal or reuse
Material is stacked, backfilled, or transported to permitted disposal areas.
Technical Buying Considerations
Reject handling should be designed around disposal strategy. A plant producing stackable filter cake has different conveyor, stockpile, and truck requirements than a slurry impoundment system.
